  • New movement in design - yachts of the 21th century

In 2011 seems to be a year where finally a lot of yachtdesigners made a step in designing yachts of the 21th century. Not the open traditonal yachts to show of in the Mediterranean harbours,  but more yachtdesigns to create  'protected' environmenst to stay with relatives and friend in privat at open sea.

The first in 2010 with this new 'military' robust design look was Ghost-Yachts with the G180. Recently a lot a prominent yachtdesign componies followed.

Ghost Yachts used its Ghost G180 platform for the hybrid yacht. Its Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) by Van Oossanen & Associates offers the required efficiency to operate a large yacht with a relatively modest propulsion power. Imtech's smart Hybrid system combined with Van Oossanen's revolutionary FDHF have proven to be a perfect combination for a sustainable and efficient yacht

  • Yacht trend 2011 - space invaders

Space invaders is probably not the best name for one of the yacht design trends of 2011. But many yachtdesigners seek space outside a yacht. Folded systems for a swimming pool, carpark of sunterraces seems to be a next thing in yachting design.  Ultimate flexible, custom made to create even a more luxury open experience outside a yacht during short stays. Even an own Island has been designed for one of the richest on this planet.  See some examples

  • How big can you sail?

Recently two new big sailyacht designs have been revealed. So how big can you sail?

Designer Igor Lobanov has revealed his latest innovative design concept Phoenicia it is an explorative study, focusing purely on the design elements themselves. This concept amalgamates various historical influences with a new modern design. The model explores a 100+ meter superyacht with generous open deck space, particularly aft of the yacht including a helipad; a feature which is usually seen on large motor yachts rather than a sailing yacht.

  • Blue whale - yacht design concept from Korea

Canaria Ocean is a professional marine design firm from Korea, providing naval architectural designs to the recreational and commercial craft industries, equipped with yacht & powerboat manufacturing facility to supply luxurious boats in variety to worldwide marine societies. Services include ship & yacht designs, 3D modeling, stability, structure, CAD, CNC and others as well as furnishing various sail and power yachts; 36ft, 46ft, 60ft catamaran and also 37M Mega-type and others in diversified versions.

Styling inspiration of this mega yacht is from the “Blue Rorqual”. The theme is a blue rorqual and we named this yacht “blue whale”.

    Acording to Canaria

"Thinking about a blue whale, it is the one of the biggest whales in the world and it can swim into the deepest sea among the whales. It can live over 100 years and travel all around the world in its life. It can grow up to 37 m and over 130 tons when it becomes an adult. So it is the big, powerful and active animal in the water. We followed this concept for this design.

Due to these reasons, it has 3 images. Firstly, the big size of this ship will give the huge and active images. Secondly, it can swim the deepest place that means it has safe images. Lastly, long life gives the duration of this ship. After many years it is built, people can use it safely.

We designed its main character line, the zig across upper part, hull and stem to middle is like the mouth of blue whale. Also, sleek and swift figure of yacht exteriors are motivated from the whale swimming. It is low rider profile as looking more fast and stable.

    This blue whale...

  • Super Nova 60

    Design overview

The latest offering in the upcoming trend of eco-friendly yachts is the Supernova by Sauter Zero. The super and megayacht makers are increasingly trying to reduce carbon footprints without compromising on the luxury features.

The latest hybrid yachts are top notch when it comes to knotting speed and the luxury facilities offered. The 60-m Solar Hybrid Megayacht is being billed as the first ultra green megayacht. This novel yacht consists of wing sails that are half in size of the other monohulls, to help achieve greater thrust and lesser drag. It boasts of sophisticated hydro and aerodynamic design that utilizes sun, wind and wave energy to make her the fastest power sailing superyacht in the world with a speed of 17kts.

By using multiple diesel electric drives supported by fully rotational wing sails, power sailing wave motion regeneration, a huge solar cell array and UPS backup, it achieves an astonishing 75 to 100 percent reduction in CHG emissions.

Richard Sauter, the founder of Sauter Zero Carbon Design, believes that their one of a kind carbon neutral approach will bring about a revolution in the reduction of carbon footprints in the yachting industry as a whole.

Super Nova, the Carbon Neutral Superyacht. A Plug- in Solar Hybrid design that is capable of feeding 400Mwh’s of electricity to the grid. Enough energy to offset 7.000 nautical miles of power sailing voyages every year.

Super Nova and Formula Zero, are the only Superyachts to harness renewable sources of energy from Wingsails, MDR, Solar Cells, and Power sailing KER, which combined with Plug-in power sources charge a Lithium ion storage system that runs all Hotel services including AC. The same Lithium UPS allows Super Nova to navigate harbors and inland...

  • PlanetSolar unveiled!

Since the end of the 80's, Raphael imagines and dreams to achieve a world tour while using a minimum of energy. He first imagines achieving it with the help of an amphibious microlight. In 2003, with the partners of the company Horus Networks, they are the first in the world to propose to their clients a Web hosting and solar-energy powered electronic mails. It is in 2004 that Raphael thinks about achieving the first tour of the world in a solar boat. At that time, it is not yet fashionable. He will thus have to first convince the future sponsors and the schools. To do this, he brings together and motivates a team of enthusiasts ready to follow him in this adventure. « At first, I was alone, I only had my dream to convince », explains Raphaël Domjan. In February 2008, the financing of the boat is secured, thanks to the support of the first main partner.
Today, more than 100 persons are working, across the world, for the PlanetSolar project.

After more than 13 months spent in the boatyard in the hands of Knierim Yachtbau’s boatbuilding team in Germany, today PlanetSolar revealed its futuristic design and its state-of-the-art technology for the first time. About two hundred people attended this event. They were finally able to realise the colossal size of the largest solar-powered boat in the world: 31 metres long, 15 metres wide, 7.5 metres high and 500m2 of photovoltaic solar panels!

The ceremony unfolded before the admiring and enthusiastic eyes of PlanetSolar's main protagonists. Raphaël Domjan, initiator of the project and skipper of the multi-hull boat, was especially filled with emotion: "This is a unique feeling to see in front of me today a boat that I so often dreamed of! I can't...
